In response to the bunnies and the Red Hot Poker plants, we planted some this last spring and They continue to meet expectations. I would think the blooms are being chewed off by the rabbits. If there are still water puddles 5-6 hours after a hard rain, scout out another site. Or amend the soil with the addition of organic material to raise the level 2'-3' to improve the drainage. Not a blowtorch, but close. Spikes glow, blaze open fiery red, then pale and wither. Mixture contains colors not usually available. Use as accents with grasses or sprawling blues and purples. Spice up your hypercums, heleniums and gaillardias. The classic showpiece. GARDEN HINTS: Seeds may be started indoors about 6 weeks before outdoor planting time. In cold areas, protect over winter with a layer of straw mulch. Cultivate or mulch to control weeds.
